Hello I'm Ace and I'm an atheist. I'm a member of dozens of atheist forums, this being my newist.

I have always been an atheist, Religion had attempted to lure me in at a very young age but failed. I'm that kind of person who needs evidence to be convinced of anything.

Not sure what else to put so I leave it as it is.

Hi Ace,
How are you?
I'm Christian. I don't condemn anyone that believes differently.
You said that Religion had attempted to lure you in. I've seen that but do you realize that Atheism is a religion?

EagleBird

Sorry to but in here but calling atheism a religion is like calling baldness a hairstyle.

hahahaha

I'm going to have to start making a list of FAQ's and rules for this forum. We've had an influx of people claiming atheism is a religion, or saying it is something more that a disbelief in gods.

In response to Eaglebird:

A religion is classified as a doctrine (set of beliefs) about the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe. Since atheism is only one belief (there are no gods) it has no opinions on the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe. Those are thoughts the individual atheist must have. Atheism is a simple belief, not a set. Theism is a simple belief, not a set. Neither theism or atheism are religions. Christianity (which uses theism) is a religion however, because it widens the belief system.
Adrian thats not the first time you've had to clarify that mistake. This is the best way that you have put it so far...
Anything that one does religiously is a religion...whether it be Atheism or Christianity.

I Like to think as Christianity as a relationship.
The definition of religiously is to do something in a religious manner. The definition of religious is having or showing belief in and reverence for God or a deity or concerning religion.

If by religiously you mean to do something scrupulously then this obviously has nothing specifically to do with religion and therefore it is folly to apply the term religion to any act undertaken in this way.

I religiously take my vitamin tablets every morning. Does that make the taking of vitamins a religion?

Therefore your statement that anything one does religiously is a religion is, with the greatest respect, the product of woolly minded thinking and a failure to grasp the dynamics of the English language.

Oxymoron. There's another word for you.

Atheism is the stance taken by an individual who chooses or decides not to believe in the existence of a god or gods. Simple as that.

And as it is such a simple and straightforward position to take it is not something that can be done religiously, scrupulously or otherwise.

Do you see what I am getting at?
